Coffee from the Tarrazú region of Costa Rica is a benchmark for high-quality Arabica and one of the most recognizable coffees in the world. It is grown in the mountainous areas south of San José, where the combination of volcanic soils, cool climate, and well-defined seasons creates an ideal environment for the slow ripening of coffee cherries.
The beans are typically cultivated at altitudes between 1200 and 1800 meters, often reaching up to around 1900 meters. Higher elevations and lower temperatures slow down the development of the fruit, resulting in denser beans with more concentrated sugars and acids—key factors behind the rich and balanced flavor profile.
The washed process is standard for the region and plays an important role in the final taste. In this method, the pulp is removed before drying, enhancing the coffee’s clarity, cleanliness, and bright acidity, while delivering a refined and precise cup profile.
In the cup, Costa Rica Tarrazú Washed is characterized by:
